South Africa Gateway is a free, non-profit project produced by Mary Alexander.

The website is inspired by SouthAfrica.info, a now-defunct encyclopaedic guide to South Africa and the continent started by the South African government way back in 2003 – and shut down in late 2016.

South Africa Gateway publishes information on South Africa – and Africa as a whole – in an unbiased way, using dependable data from local and global statistical agencies.

We present the facts. Some facts aren’t great. Some are better than you’d think.

And no country or people should be assessed only by their leaders, right? That’s why South Africa Gateway also celebrates the history, images, culture and people of South Africa, and the rest of Africa.
